Teachers' Day Speech in Hindi and English 2026 (Line by Line Bhashan)
Here is a ready Teachers' Day speech in Hindi with the English meaning of every line — a 1-minute version, a 3-minute version and a 10-line version, plus Roman transliteration if you find Hindi easier to read in English letters.
It is written to be spoken, not read: short sentences, ordinary words, nothing a Class 5 student would stumble over. Take the length that fits your slot, and change one line to name a teacher of your own — that single change is what turns a copied speech into yours.
Before you start: the facts to get right
- Date: 5 September 2026, a Saturday
- Whose birthday: Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, born 5 September 1888 (his 138th)
- He was: India's first Vice-President and second President — and a teacher first
- Why this date: he asked that his birthday be kept as Teachers' Day instead of his own
1-minute speech in Hindi
About 110 words — the length most student speakers are actually given.

Adaraniya Pradhanacharya ji, sammanit shikshakgan aur mere priya saathiyon,
Aaj 5 September — Shikshak Diwas. Sabhi shikshakon ko Shikshak Diwas ki hardik shubhkamnaayein!
Aaj hum Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan ji ka janmdin manate hain. Ve hamare desh ke pehle Uprashtrapati aur doosre Rashtrapati the.
Shikshak keval kitaabein nahi padhate. Ve hamein sochna sikhate hain, girkar uthna sikhate hain, aur sahi-galat mein farak karna sikhate hain. Mata-pita hamein jeevan dete hain, aur shikshak us jeevan ko disha dete hain.
Main apne sabhi shikshakon ko hriday se dhanyavaad deta hoon. Aapka diya hua gyaan jeevan bhar hamare saath rahega.
Dhanyavaad!
What it means in English
Respected Principal, honoured teachers and my dear friends,
Today is 5 September — Teachers' Day. Warm wishes to all our teachers on this day.
Today we mark the birthday of Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan. He was our country's first Vice-President and second President. When his students wished to celebrate his birthday, he told them — keep it as Teachers' Day instead.
Teachers do not only teach books. They teach us to think, to get up after falling, and to tell right from wrong. Our parents give us life, and our teachers give that life a direction.
I thank all my teachers from my heart. The knowledge you have given us will stay with us all our lives.
Thank you!
3-minute speech in Hindi
About 340 words. Use this if you are speaking for your class or house, or if the programme has given you a longer slot.

What the 3-minute speech means in English
Respected Principal, honoured teachers, my classmates and all the guests present here,
Today is 5 September. Warm wishes to all of you on Teachers' Day!
Today is the birthday of Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan. He was born on 5 September 1888. He was a professor of philosophy, taught as far as Oxford, and later became India's first Vice-President and second President.
But today we remember him not as a President — as a teacher. And the reason for that is one he gave himself. When his students wanted to celebrate his birthday, he said the day should be kept as Teachers' Day instead. Think about that: a man the whole country wanted to honour handed that honour back to his profession.
Friends, we often say that teachers teach us. But the truth is bigger. A teacher is the first person who believes in us — sometimes before we do. When we think we cannot do something, a teacher says, "You can." That one sentence has changed many lives.
They mark our mistakes in red pen so that the mistake does not appear in the exam. They scold us, and then praise us behind our backs. They remember our names, years later.
Today I want to name one of my teachers — [teacher's name], who [one thing they did for you]. I will never forget it.
What can we give our teachers? Not expensive gifts. The biggest gift for them is that we study with attention, stay honest, and become good people. The day we become something, they will be the happiest of all.
Once again, wishes to all our teachers. The knowledge you have given us will stay with us all our lives.
Thank you!

How to deliver it so it does not sound read
Teachers' Day is a harder speech than most, because the people you are talking about are sitting in the front row looking at you. Four habits carry it:
- Name one teacher and one specific thing they did. Not "all our teachers are great" — "Sir stayed back after school in December to explain trigonometry to me again." A named specific is the only line anyone will remember, and it is the one that makes a teacher's eyes go bright.
- Pause after every full stop, and count one in your head. Nervous speakers run sentences together. A held pause is the difference between reciting and speaking.
- Look up on the last three words of each paragraph. You do not need the whole speech memorised — just know each ending well enough to lift your eyes for it.
- Do not rush the thank you. The last line is the whole point of the speech. Slow down for it rather than racing to sit down.
Rehearse it out loud at least three times — not in your head. Reading silently trains your eyes, not your mouth, and on stage it is your mouth doing the work. Record yourself once on a phone and listen back; almost everyone is surprised by how fast they are going.
Your next school speech is probably for Bal Diwas, on Saturday, 14 November 2026. (Bal Diwas speech in Hindi) is set out line by line like this page and our Gandhi Jayanti speech in Hindi and English, with Roman letters and the English meaning. If you are speaking in English that day, the Children's Day speech in English has 1, 2 and 3-minute versions.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I give this speech in Hindi if my school is English-medium?
Usually yes, and it often lands better. Most schools run at least part of the Teachers' Day function in Hindi, and gratitude spoken in the language the audience thinks in carries further than a stiff English version. Ask your class teacher which slot is which.
What is the best line to open a Teachers' Day speech with?
The greeting, said slowly. "आदरणीय प्रधानाचार्य जी, सम्मानित शिक्षकगण और मेरे प्रिय साथियों" is the standard and it works. The first line sets your pace for the whole speech, so if you rush it you will rush everything.
How do I make this speech sound like mine and not a copy?
Fill in the one blank in the 3-minute version — a teacher's name and one specific thing they did for you. Ten seconds to write, and it is the only line anyone will still remember at lunch.
How many words is a 1-minute Hindi speech?
About 100 to 120 words at a comfortable pace. Hindi runs slightly slower out loud than English, so if you have timed an English speech at 150 words per minute, cut it by roughly a fifth.
