IELTS Speaking

Complete IELTS Speaking preparation. Part 1, 2, 3 questions with sample answers and band 7+ tips.

The IELTS Speaking test is a 11-14 minute face-to-face interview with a certified examiner, divided into three distinct parts. Part 1 covers familiar topics such as your hometown, hobbies, and daily routine; our IELTS Speaking Part 1 questions and answers has 50 of them with Band 7+ sample answers. Part 2 is the cue card round where you speak for up to two minutes on a given topic after one minute of preparation. Part 3 moves into abstract discussion, requiring you to analyse ideas, compare perspectives, and justify opinions at length.

Your score is determined by four equally weighted criteria: Fluency and Coherence (speaking at a natural pace without excessive hesitation), Lexical Resource (using varied and precise vocabulary), Grammatical Range and Accuracy (employing complex sentence structures correctly), and Pronunciation (clear articulation with natural intonation patterns).

Indian test-takers commonly lose marks by memorising scripted answers (examiners are trained to detect this), overusing filler phrases like "actually" and "basically," and mispronouncing consonant clusters. Mother-tongue influence on vowel sounds and sentence stress also affects pronunciation scores.

Effective preparation involves recording yourself daily, practising under timed conditions, expanding topic-specific vocabulary, and getting feedback on pronunciation. TalkDrill's IELTS Speaking practice runs Part 2 cue cards and a full three-part test with the real timings, then gives a band estimate on each of the four criteria. It is an estimate, not an official score, but it shows which criterion is holding you back.
