Acceptance of Terms
By accessing and using TalkDrill ("the Service"), you accept and agree to be bound by the terms and provision of this agreement. If you do not agree to abide by the above, please do not use this service.
Information We Collect
We collect information you provide directly, as well as information collected automatically when you use the Service:
- Account information: phone number, name, and profile details
- Voice and speech data: audio from your speaking sessions, and written transcripts of your conversations
- Usage data: conversations, practice sessions, and learning progress
- Device and browser information for service optimization
- Communication data when you contact our support team
Voice Recordings and Speech Data
TalkDrill helps you practise speaking, so your voice is central to how the Service works. We want to be explicit about what happens to it:
- When you speak to an AI tutor, your speech is converted to text so the tutor can understand and reply
- Sessions are recorded and stored, including audio of the conversation and a written transcript
- Your speech and transcripts are processed by the third-party AI providers that power speech recognition, conversation and voice generation, under data processing agreements
- We use this data to generate your feedback reports and pronunciation scores, to track your progress, to improve the quality and safety of the Service, and to investigate reports of misuse
- Session audio is kept for a limited period and then deleted automatically. Transcripts and the feedback built from them are kept with your learning history so your reports stay available to you
- A small number of authorised staff can access session recordings and transcripts to investigate quality or safety issues. Access is restricted by role
- We do not sell your voice data, and we do not use it to build voice profiles that identify you
You can ask us to delete your recordings and transcripts, or your whole account, at any time — see "Your Rights" below. If you would rather not have your speech recorded, please do not use the speaking features.
Messages with other learners and Groups
You can message other learners one to one and join Groups run by the TalkDrill team. Here is what happens to those messages:
- Other learners see your name and profile photo, or only your handle and no photo if you chose to stay anonymous. We never show them your phone number or email address
- A message you send to one learner is seen by that learner. A post in a Group can be seen by anyone on TalkDrill who can open that Group, including people who have not joined it yet, and by our moderators
- Voice messages are stored and turned into text. We use the text to run safety checks and to power the learning tools in chat
- Group messages, including voice messages, are kept for 180 days and then deleted automatically. If a message was reported or flagged, a short excerpt of it is kept with the report so our team can review it
- Our moderators review reported messages and Group posts. An automated safety check also looks at a sample of messages, and at more of the messages from someone who was recently reported, to spot possible abuse. Its result is stored with the message for our team
- If a message is reported, or our automated check flags it, our moderators can read the recent messages in that conversation or Group from everyone in it, including voice messages, to understand what happened
- When the automated check flags a message, it sends it to a person on our team for review. The automated check does not delete messages or remove anyone on its own. Any action is decided by a person
- You can block another learner at any time. Once blocked, they can no longer message you or call you
- To report a message, a Group post or a learner, use Report on the message, in the chat menu (⋮), or on their profile. Reports go to our team for review
The automated safety check may use the third-party AI providers described above. You can also write to legal@talkdrill.com about any message or report.
Free Trial & IP Tracking
To prevent abuse of our free trial system and ensure fair usage, we collect certain technical data:
- We collect IP addresses and browser fingerprints for free trial abuse prevention
- This data is stored for 90 days and automatically deleted
- IP data is hashed and not shared with third parties
- Free trial usage is limited to one 3-minute session per unique user per 24 hours
How We Use Your Data
We use the information we collect to:
- Provide, maintain, and improve the Service
- Personalize your learning experience and track progress
- Communicate with you about updates, support, and promotions
- Detect, prevent, and address technical issues and abuse
- Comply with legal obligations
Data Sharing & Third Parties
We do not sell your personal data. We may share information with:
- Service providers who assist in operating the platform (hosting, analytics, payment processing)
- AI providers who process your speech and conversations to power the tutors (speech recognition, conversation, and voice generation)
- Professional tutors you book sessions with (limited to session-relevant information)
- Law enforcement when required by law or to protect rights and safety
All third-party providers are bound by data processing agreements and are required to protect your information.
Data Security
We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your personal data, including encryption in transit and at rest, regular security audits, and access controls.
Web Platform Technologies
We use the Web OTP API to auto-read verification codes for a seamless login. This requires SMS permission and is used only for authentication.
We use cookies for authentication tokens, free trial session tracking, user preferences, and analytics. For full details, see our Cookies Policy.
We collect personal details like your name, email address, and phone number etc. By sharing your information, you authorize TalkDrill to contact you via SMS, RCS, WhatsApp, Email, and other communication channels. This consent overrides any NDNC/DND registration as per TRAI regulations.
Your Rights (GDPR & Global)
If you are in the EU, you have the right to access, rectify, delete, or port your personal data. You may also object to or restrict certain processing activities. Contact legal@talkdrill.com for any data requests.
Regardless of your location, you can request a copy of your data, ask for data deletion, or update your information through your account settings or by contacting us. To delete your account yourself, sign in and go to Settings → Delete account.
Disclaimers and Limitation of Liability
The Service is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. TalkDrill shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the Service.
Termination
We may terminate or suspend your account and access to the Service at our sole discretion, without prior notice, for conduct that we believe violates these Terms or is harmful to other users, us, or third parties.
Changes to Terms
We reserve the right to modify these Terms at any time. We will notify users of any material changes via email or through the Service. Your continued use of the Service constitutes acceptance of the modified Terms.
