Privacy Policy — TalkDrill Chrome Extension
Last updated: June 2026
This policy describes how the TalkDrill Chrome extension (“the extension”) handles your data. It supplements the general TalkDrill Privacy Policy, which applies to your TalkDrill account and the talkdrill.com website.
Data We Collect
The extension collects the minimum data needed to score your pronunciation and sync your practice progress. Here is exactly what is collected, when, and for how long it is kept:
| Data | When | Storage | Retention |
|---|---|---|---|
| Audio recordings | When you record a sentence for scoring | Sent to our API for scoring — never stored after scoring | Deleted immediately after your score is generated |
| Text you select to practice | When you activate practice on a selection | Processed in-memory only | Not retained |
| YouTube captions you practice | During shadowing sessions | Processed in-memory only | Only the session summary (scores, not text) is kept |
| Usage events | When you use a feature (e.g. a score is generated) | TalkDrill analytics | Per our standard data retention policy |
Data We Do NOT Collect
The extension never collects:
- Your browsing history
- Page content — except the text you explicitly select or ask us to scan
- Keystrokes or form inputs
- Cookies from other websites
- Your contacts, bookmarks, or downloads
The extension only runs on a page when you activate it there (via the toolbar icon or right-click menu). It has no persistent access to your browsing.
Microphone Access
The extension requests microphone access only when you choose to record a sentence for pronunciation scoring. Recording happens exclusively in the extension popup or side panel — never silently in the background and never inside the pages you visit.
Your audio is sent to TalkDrill servers over an encrypted connection solely to generate your pronunciation score, and it is deleted immediately after scoring. We do not store your voice, build voice profiles, or use your recordings to train models.
We Do Not Sell Your Data
TalkDrill does not sell, rent, or trade your personal data to anyone. Usage analytics are used only to improve the product, and any third-party service providers we use (such as hosting) are bound by data processing agreements.
Your Rights (GDPR & Global)
You can request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal data at any time. If you are in the EU, you additionally have the right to data portability and to object to or restrict certain processing.
To exercise any of these rights — including full account and data deletion — contact us at legal@talkdrill.com. We respond to all verified deletion requests.
Changes to This Policy
If we make material changes to how the extension handles data, we will update this page and note the new “last updated” date above. Questions? Reach us at legal@talkdrill.com or via the contact page.
