Teachers' Day Speech for Kids: Easy Speeches for Class 1 to 5
Here are two ready Teachers' Day speeches for young children — an 8-line version for Classes 1 and 2, and a 15-line version for Classes 3 to 5. Every word in them is a word a child that age already uses, because a speech a child does not understand is a speech they cannot deliver.
If you are a parent reading this the night before, skip to the rehearsal method at the bottom. It matters more than which speech you pick.
8-line speech for Classes 1 and 2
About 45 seconds, said slowly. Slowly is the whole trick.
Good morning everyone.
My name is [name] and I am in Class [class].
Today is Teachers' Day.
I want to say thank you to my teachers.
My teacher teaches me to read and to write.
My teacher is kind to me when I make a mistake.
When I grow up, I want to be clever like my teacher.
Happy Teachers' Day. Thank you!
15-line speech for Classes 3 to 5
About 90 seconds.
Good morning respected Principal, respected teachers and my dear friends.
My name is [name] and I am in Class [class].
Today is the fifth of September, and we are celebrating Teachers' Day.
We celebrate it today because it is the birthday of Dr Radhakrishnan.
He was a great teacher, and later he became the President of India.
When his students wanted to celebrate his birthday, he said something wonderful.
He said: celebrate it as Teachers' Day instead.
Our teachers do so much for us every single day.
They teach us to read, to write, and to solve difficult sums.
But they also teach us to be honest, and to share, and to say sorry.
My teacher [teacher's name] helped me when [one thing they helped you with].
I felt happy because she believed I could do it.
Thank you for being patient with us, even when we are noisy.
We promise to study well and make all of you proud.
Happy Teachers' Day to all our teachers. Thank you!
Read this speech aloud before you go on stage
Reading a speech silently is not rehearsing it. Read it aloud in TalkDrill and get scored on pace, pauses and pronunciation — so you know which words you stumble on while there is still time to fix them. Free — after signup.
The hard words, explained simply
If a child cannot explain a word, they will stumble on it. Ask them what each one means before the day.
| Word | What to tell a child it means |
|---|---|
| respected | Someone we look up to and are polite to. |
| celebrating | Doing something special because the day is special. |
| President | The most important person in our whole country. |
| instead | In place of something else. |
| honest | Always telling the truth. |
| patient | Not getting angry even when it takes a long time. |
| proud | Happy about something good that you or someone else did. |
| promise | Saying you will really do something. |
For parents: the rehearsal method that actually works
Most children are not nervous about the words. They are nervous about the room. So rehearse the room, not just the speech.
- Read it to them first, twice, at the speed you want them to say it. Children copy pace far more than they copy words.
- Then take turns line by line. You say a line, they say it back. Do not correct pronunciation on the first pass — let them get to the end once feeling successful.
- Make them stand up. Sitting rehearsal does not transfer. Have them stand at one end of the room and speak to you at the other.
- Add an audience. Two soft toys on chairs is enough. The goal is that their first experience of eyes on them is not on the stage.
- Practise the walk. Walk to the spot, stop, breathe once, then start. Nearly every child rushes because they begin talking while still walking.
- Practise the ending. Say thank you, wait for the clapping, then walk back. Children often bolt the moment they finish and miss their own applause.
Three run-throughs on two separate days beats ten run-throughs the night before. Sleep does most of the memorising.
And on the morning: do not add a new line. If they have learnt eight, eight is right.
Frequently Asked Questions
How long should a Class 1 Teachers' Day speech be?
Thirty to sixty seconds. The 8-line version above is about forty-five seconds said slowly. Nobody wants a small child to speak for longer, and a short speech delivered confidently is always better than a long one delivered anxiously.
My child forgets the middle of the speech. What do we do?
Cut it. A speech that fits comfortably is worth more than one that is technically more impressive. Drop the middle lines and keep the opening, the thank you and the ending — the parts anyone remembers anyway.
Should my child mention Dr Radhakrishnan?
For Classes 3 to 5, yes — it answers the question of why the day is today, and it is usually what the teacher is hoping to hear. For Classes 1 and 2, skip it. "Thank you to my teachers" is the whole job at that age.
What if my child cries or freezes on stage?
It happens often and nobody minds — least of all the teachers, who have seen it every year of their careers. Tell your child in advance that if they forget, they can just say "Happy Teachers' Day, thank you" and come back, and that this counts as finishing. Having a permitted exit is usually what stops them needing it.
