At a glance: five countries, two tests
In Korea, OPIc and TOEIC Speaking cost the same: KRW 84,000 including VAT each. OPIc releases results five days after the test at 13:00. TOEIC Speaking runs every Saturday and Sunday through December 2026, with results at 12:00 five days after each sitting. In Japan, it costs 6,930 yen on 29 November or 20 December 2026, with scores 17 days later. In Taiwan, the Speaking Test alone costs NT$2,300 and Speaking and Writing NT$3,300, on 22 November or 13 December 2026, with Speaking and Writing then monthly through 2027. In Thailand, CPA lists 2,250 baht for the Speaking Test. IIG Vietnam publishes the format but no fee on the pages we read, so we leave that cell as "not published" rather than guess. Every figure below was read on the registrar's own page on 21 October 2026.

This page covers OPIc as run in Korea. ACTFL's OPIc page describes the test itself (an internet-delivered interview with an avatar called Ava, 20 to 40 minutes), but we did not verify a public OPIc registrar for Japan, Taiwan, Vietnam or Thailand this week, so we list none. If you are deciding between the two tests, read OPIc vs TOEIC Speaking first.
South Korea: OPIc
OPIc is ACTFL's computer-delivered speaking interview, run in Korea by Multicampus. Its own site says it was introduced in Korea in 2006 and is used by about 1,700 companies and institutions for hiring, HR and training assessment, with about 100 test centres in 25 regions. Everything below is from the 시험소개 page, the 수험자 가이드 page and the test rules (시험관리규정), all read in a browser on 21 October 2026.
| Item | What opic.or.kr says |
|---|---|
| Fee | KRW 84,000 including VAT. Group tests for companies and institutions have a separate fee. |
| Format | 12 to 15 questions. 40 minutes of test after a 20-minute orientation, about 60 minutes in all. A background survey and a self-assessment set the questions and their difficulty. |
| Languages | English, Chinese, Russian, Spanish, Korean, Japanese and Vietnamese. |
| Arrival | Be in the room 10 minutes before the start. Latecomers and anyone without accepted ID are not admitted, with no postponement or refund. |
| ID | For adults: resident registration card, driving licence, unexpired passport, civil servant ID and some others; mobile ID counts if legally valid. Originals only. Student cards and employee cards are not accepted for adults. |
| Changes and cancellation | On the application site, until midnight on the application deadline for that test (article 7 of the rules). |
| Results | Five days after the test, from 13:00. OPIc says ACTFL can occasionally delay this, and some test dates have early release. Print the certificate online. |
| Validity | Two years from the test date; older results cannot be viewed. |
| Retest | The 25-day rule: per ACTFL policy, you can sit the same language again only after 25 days (a 1 June test means the next from 27 June). One Waiver every 150 days lets you sit once inside the window. |
| If the recording fails | A result of UR (unratable) caused by a technical fault means a retest or a full refund. A weak answer is not a technical fault. |
- No pen on the desk. Article 13 of the rules treats keeping or using a writing tool on the desk as a violation: the test is void and you are barred for a year. A phone or smartwatch that rings or vibrates is treated the same way. This is the opposite of TOEIC Speaking, where scratch paper is provided.
- Check the Waiver before you rely on it. The rules table shows one Waiver every 150 days for OPIc, and notes that Waiver use for the separate OPI telephone interview was suspended as of January 2026. Confirm on the site before you plan a retake around a Waiver.
- Saving coupons. If you miss a personally paid test because you were late, forgot your ID or the system failed, OPIc may issue a saving coupon valid for 180 days. It cannot be converted to cash.
To choose your target level before you book, read our OPIc levels page; Korean readers can follow the 오픽 30일 로드맵.
South Korea: TOEIC Speaking
YBM runs TOEIC Speaking in Korea. Its test page, read on 21 October 2026, says the test came to Korea in December 2006, has 11 questions in about 20 minutes, and is scored by ETS raters living in North America, with results within five days of the test. The fee, start times and refund rules below are from YBM's 수험자가이드 (candidate guide) and test rules; the dates are from the YBM schedule. All were read on 21 October 2026.
| Item | What YBM publishes |
|---|---|
| Fee | KRW 84,000 including 10% VAT for the TOEIC Speaking Test. Writing alone is also KRW 84,000; Speaking and Writing together is KRW 114,400. Online payment by credit card, bank transfer or mobile phone. |
| Start times | YBM's entry table lists start times every hour, at half past, from 09:30 to 20:30. Entry opens at the start time and closes 10 minutes later (for a 09:30 test, entry from 09:30 to 09:39, no entry from 09:40). A late arrival cannot sit, postpone or get a refund. |
| Registration | Opens on a Monday at 10:00, about a month before the sitting, and closes at 10:00 three days before it: on the Wednesday for a Saturday test, on the Thursday for a Sunday test. |
| Results | At 12:00 five days after the test: Thursday for a Saturday sitting, Friday for a Sunday sitting. Special group sittings report in about two weeks. |
| Cancellation and refund | Full refund within the registration period. After it closes, 50% until the day before the test (for a Saturday test, until Friday midnight; for a Sunday test, until Saturday midnight). Discounted company, military and some programme bookings cannot be refunded after the registration period. |
| Scratch paper | One sheet and a pen from the centre (article 19). Writing on the sheet before the test starts, or using any other pen, voids the score and you leave the room (article 14). |
| Validity | Two years, to the same date two years after the test (article 11). Score look-ups and reissues stop after that. |
Public sittings from late October to the end of December 2026, as listed on the YBM schedule. YBM notes the schedule may change, so check it before you book.

Japan: TOEIC Speaking Test and Speaking and Writing
IIBC runs both the TOEIC Speaking Test on its own and the TOEIC Speaking and Writing Tests. All figures are from the IIBC Speaking Test page, its Speaking fee page and its Speaking and Writing fee page, fetched on 21 October 2026.
| Item | TOEIC Speaking Test | TOEIC Speaking and Writing |
|---|---|---|
| Fee, regular period | 6,930 yen including tax | 10,450 yen including tax |
| Fee, additional period | 8,745 yen including tax | 13,200 yen including tax |
| Payment | Regular period: credit card or convenience store. Additional period: credit card only. | |
| Change fee (date, time or venue) | 1,815 yen | 2,750 yen |
| Cancellation fee | 3,150 yen | 5,000 yen |
| Test dates | 29 November 2026 (applications close 13 November at 15:00) and 20 December 2026 (applications open 23 October at 10:00) | |
| Results | Scores on the TOEIC application site 17 days after the test. IIBC lists a digital certificate date per sitting: 16 December 2026 for the 29 November test and 7 January 2027 for the 20 December test. Paper certificates are posted within 30 days of the test. | |
The Speaking Test alone is the cheaper route if your employer or school asks only for a speaking score. Japanese readers can use our TOEIC Speaking 対策 page, which has the same verified fee and dates in Japanese.
Taiwan: TOEIC Speaking Test, and Speaking and Writing
Chun Shin runs TOEIC in Taiwan. From its registration page and test dates page, fetched on 21 October 2026: the computer-based Speaking and Writing test costs NT$3,300, NT$1,650 for test takers aged 65 or over (with a copy of an ROC ID), and nothing for low-income households with a certificate from the local government. Chun Shin also runs the TOEIC Speaking Test on its own: its Speaking Test registration page lists NT$2,300 (NT$1,150 aged 65 or over, free for low-income households), and its Speaking Test dates page shows the same two sittings, registration windows and score dates as the table below. If your employer or school asks only for a speaking score, the Speaking Test saves NT$1,000.
| Test date | Registration window | Scores online | Score report posted |
|---|---|---|---|
| 22 November 2026 | 21 September to 9 November | 7 to 20 December 2026 | 8 December 2026 |
| 13 December 2026 | 12 October to 30 November | 29 December 2026 to 11 January 2027 | 30 December 2026 |
Both sittings run in seven cities: Taipei, New Taipei, Taoyuan, Hsinchu, Taichung, Tainan and Kaohsiung. The 2027 list, not yet open for registration, is 10 January, 21 February, 7 March, 11 April, 9 May, 6 June, 4 July, 1 August, 5 September, 3 October, 7 November and 5 December.
Vietnam and Thailand: what is published
Both registrars publish the format. CPA Thailand also publishes its fees on a separate reservation page; IIG Vietnam shows no fee on the pages we read, so we do not state one.
- Vietnam (IIG Vietnam). The TOEIC SW page says Speaking has 11 questions in 20 minutes, scored 0 to 200 in eight levels, and Writing has 8 questions in 60 minutes, scored 0 to 200 in nine levels. A TOEIC SW score report or certificate is valid for two years. You register online from that page. Fee, calendar and results timing are not on the page; ask IIG.
- Thailand (CPA Thailand). The TOEIC SW programme page says public tests run once a month on CPA's schedule and that you can choose Speaking Only, Writing Only, or Speaking and Writing. Its test reservation page, fetched on 21 October 2026, adds the practical rules for individual candidates:
- Fee: 2,250 baht for the TOEIC Speaking Test and 3,500 baht for Speaking and Writing, paid by QR code before the test. Organisations pay an agreed rate.
- Booking: by phone with the CPA Call Center at least two weeks before the test, Monday to Saturday, 08:00 to 16:30. Email bookings are not accepted.
- Changing or cancelling: free if done more than 10 calendar days before the test. Within 1 to 10 days, or a no-show without notice, the charge is 2,250 baht for Speaking or 3,500 baht for Speaking and Writing, the same as the fee.
- On the day: check in at the centre in Bangkok or Chiang Mai an hour before your session; the counter closes 10 minutes before it starts.
Our official resources page keeps every registrar link in one list, and the 30-day roadmap is written for readers in Vietnam, Thailand and Taiwan.
Retakes, validity and results timing
| Rule | OPIc (Korea) | TOEIC Speaking |
|---|---|---|
| Waiting period before a retest | 25 days for the same language; one Waiver every 150 days (opic.or.kr rules) | No waiting period stated on the registrar pages we read |
| Validity | Two years from the test date (opic.or.kr) | Two years in Korea (YBM rules, article 11) and Vietnam (IIG). The ETS handbook says reports are not reissued after two years. |
| Results | Five days after the test, from 13:00 | Korea 5 days later at 12:00; Japan 17 days; Taiwan on the published date. The ETS handbook's general figure is about 14 business days. |
| Cancelling | On the application site until midnight on the application deadline (article 7) | Korea: full refund within the registration period, 50% after it until the day before. Japan: cancellation fee 3,150 yen for Speaking alone, within IIBC's set period. Thailand: free more than 10 calendar days before the test, otherwise a charge equal to the fee. |
| Re-marking | Not covered on the pages we read | Score review for a fee, up to one month after the test, once only, results in about four weeks, fee refunded if the score changes (ETS handbook; ask your registrar for the fee) |
The handbook referred to is the ETS TOEIC Speaking and Writing Examinee Handbook. Employers may set their own window for how recent a score must be, so read the posting as well as the validity rule.
Working back from an application deadline
The results timing decides your last useful test date. The examples below are TalkDrill calculations from the official rules above, not dates any registrar publishes for you.
Korea, OPIc: a posting that closes on 30 November 2026
Results come five days after the test at 13:00, so a test on 25 November gives a result on 30 November at 13:00, which is too tight for most postings. Sit in early November instead. If that attempt goes badly, the 25-day rule means the next normal attempt is 26 days later, so you would need a Waiver to retake before the deadline.
Korea, TOEIC Speaking: the same 30 November deadline
The 22 November sitting reports on 27 November at 12:00, and its registration closes on 19 November at 10:00. The 28 and 29 November sittings report on 3 and 4 December, after the deadline. If you sit on 7 or 8 November instead, results arrive on 12 or 13 November, which still leaves time to book a second attempt before the 19 November cut-off.
Japan: a score needed by 31 December 2026
The 29 November sitting reports 17 days later, on 16 December. The 20 December sitting reports after New Year. So 29 November is the one to book, and IIBC's application deadline for it is 13 November at 15:00.
Taiwan: a score needed by mid-December 2026
The 22 November sitting puts scores online from 7 December and posts the score report on 8 December; registration for it closes on 9 November. The 13 December sitting puts scores online from 29 December, too late for a mid-December deadline.
Once the date is booked, plan backwards from it with our TOEIC Speaking 30-day plan or the OPIc practice bank.
Upcoming dates in one list
The dates block on this page is generated from our dated list, which is re-checked against the registrars every week. The same dates in words:
- OPIc (South Korea): book any time; sittings run through the year at KRW 84,000. Results five days after the test at 13:00; a retest needs a 25-day gap.
- TOEIC Speaking (South Korea): every Saturday and Sunday through December 2026, KRW 84,000, per YBM; results within five days (12:00 on the fifth day).
- TOEIC Speaking Test (Japan): 29 November 2026 and 20 December 2026, 6,930 yen; results in about 17 days, per IIBC.
- TOEIC Speaking and Writing (Taiwan): 22 November 2026 and 13 December 2026, NT$3,300 (the Speaking Test alone is NT$2,300 on the same dates); monthly Speaking and Writing sittings continue through 2027.
For practice before any of these, start with the TOEIC Speaking practice bank, record your read-aloud on TalkDrill read-aloud practice, or rehearse an OPIc-style interview with the AI interviewer. The full overview of both tests is on the OPIc and TOEIC Speaking hub.
