The official links, in one paragraph
There are four test owners behind most BPO English tests: Pearson (Versant), SHL (SVAR), Harver (its Spoken Language Assessment) and Berlitz. For an employer's test, the employer pays and sends you the link. What you can buy yourself is practice: Pearson sells a Versant practice test on its India store for Rs 1,100, and Berlitz's US pages carry a "Buy test" button on their speaking tests. SHL and Harver publish pages for employers only, with no public price. This page lists every official page worth opening, says in one line what each one tells you, flags the old links that now return "page not found", and gives the date we last checked each one (21 October 2026). If a recruiter or a website sends you somewhere else, compare the address with the ones below before you pay or type a test code. For what the facts on these pages mean for your preparation, start at the BPO English tests hub.
- 17 official pages and PDFs below; 16 verified, 1 unverified.
- Prices we quote: Rs 1,100 for Pearson's Versant practice test (India store) and the AMCAT MyEnglish price as shown on 21 October 2026. Employer tests are paid for by the employer.
- Three old addresses are dead: we name them and never link them.
- We re-check every row each week; the status and date move when we do.
Versant (Pearson)
| Page | What it tells you | Status |
|---|---|---|
| Pearson India store: Versant English Test | Rs 1,100; about 17 minutes; six sections (Reading, Repeat, Short Answer Questions, Sentence Builds, Story Retelling, Open Questions); 10 to 90 on the Global Scale of English; a report within minutes. Also: "This test is for practice purposes only", "questions do not vary from test to test", "All sales are final", and the browser and audio requirements. | Verified |
| Versant by Pearson: test takers | Pearson's front door for candidates, linking to scored practice tests, prep resources and technical support. It says employer tests "are sent directly to you by the employer". | Verified |
| Test-taker preparation | Paid practice tests and a demo; five official test guides; scores "usually available online within minutes"; a test code (TIN) cannot be used again once you attempt it. | Verified |
| Check your score | Enter your TIN to open your score report. | Verified |
| Versant Speaking and Listening Test: official guide (2024, PDF) | The most useful Pearson document for candidates: 17 minutes, Parts A to F with 8, 16, 6, 6, 2 and 2 items, the time for each part (for example 15 seconds to repeat a sentence, starting within 6 seconds), the four skills reported, and the headset and quiet-room rules. | Verified |
| GSE and CEFR chart (PDF) | One page that places Global Scale of English scores against CEFR levels, with can-do statements for each skill. Use it to read a Versant number as a level. | Verified |
| Versant for HR professionals | The employer view of Versant. Thin for candidates: no BPO detail and no scale. | Verified |
Two things on these pages trip people up. First, the store product is called the Versant English Test but is a practice test; your employer's test comes with its own TIN in the invitation email. Second, Pearson describes two different speaking tests under the Versant name, with different part lists. Our fees, booking and results page covers the first and the comparison page the second. For the classic format in depth, see our Versant English Test guide.
SVAR (SHL) and AMCAT
| Page | What it tells you | Status |
|---|---|---|
| SHL: SVAR spoken language assessment | 12 to 15 minutes; candidates "repeat or respond in their own words"; scored on pronunciation, fluency, grammar, vocabulary and comprehension; 20+ languages and 7 accents; mobile and web; built from CEFR-aligned data rated by CEFR experts; uses include contact centres, technical support, telesales and front-office roles. Hiring teams get the report. | Verified |
| AMCAT: MyEnglish certification | A paid certificate sold to job seekers in India, testing speaking, writing and listening with machine scoring. On 21 October 2026 it showed Rs 550 (next to "Buy with AMCAT and get 35% off") against Rs 850 struck through. Buy it only if you want a certificate of your own; an employer's SVAR arrives as its own link. | Verified |
SHL's page is written for employers, so it has no practice test and no score scale for candidates. The free practice in the SVAR style is our own: the repeat and short-answer items in the practice bank and the twelve questions in our SVAR test questions and answers post. Indian campus and walk-in routes are on the company tests in India page.
Harver, and an employer that names it
| Page | What it tells you | Status |
|---|---|---|
| Harver: Spoken Language Assessment | Three sections: "single word testing, listening to a sentence and repeat the sentence, and reading a longer paragraph aloud". It measures "speaking rate, pauses & hesitations, cadence and pitch", and responses are scored and ranked against IELTS and CEFR standards with percentile scoring. Employers can add brand-specific talk tracks. No duration or pass mark. | Verified |
| Harver: contact centre and BPO hiring | The other modules an invitation can contain: a personality questionnaire, cognitive ability testing, a situational judgement test, a live chat support simulation and the spoken language assessment. "Fluency in 29 languages". Customers quoted: KellyConnect and IntouchCX. | Verified |
| Concentrix: careers FAQ | Official that Concentrix uses Harver: "Harver is a virtual assessment tool that allows us to objectively evaluate our candidates." Tests cover "language proficiency, computer proficiency, customer support, and typing skills", and "The assessment is timed". | Verified |
Teleperformance does not appear on any official page we could read in connection with Harver; that link comes from candidate reports only, and our Harver page labels it so.
Berlitz, Philippines and US
| Page | What it tells you | Status |
|---|---|---|
| Berlitz Philippines: testing and assessment | Testing "in over 40 languages, 24 hours a day, seven days a week, online or over the phone"; a Speaking Skills test that "can be customized" per employer; a Simulated Oral Proficiency Interview (SOPI) in English and other languages; results "within two business days". No duration, scale or fee. | Verified |
| Berlitz (US): testing for BPO companies | A Speaking Test for Workplace Communication with online delivery, a "20-minute testing time" and CEFR alignment; AI speaking results within 30 minutes, human-rated English speaking within one business day. | Verified |
| Berlitz (US): language testing | The catalogue: CEFR-aligned speaking, writing, listening and reading tests, rated by AI and by human experts. | Verified |
| Berlitz proficiency levels | The Berlitz scale from 1 (beginner) to 10 (professional), with 7 and 8 in the "Advanced" band. Applicants who talk about "Berlitz level 7" most likely mean this scale; your employer's report may use its own. | Verified |
| TESDA (Philippines) | Philippine technical qualifications and Training Regulations downloads. We did not find the Contact Center Services NC II page itself this week. | Unverified |
The Philippine page and the US pages describe related but not identical products, and the employer can customise the speaking test, so treat the US figures as a guide, not as your test. Our Berlitz test page has the practice conversations.
Dead links and red flags
Three addresses that no longer work
These returned "page not found" (404) on 21 October 2026. Older guides and forum posts still link to them. Use the rows above instead.
| Dead address (not linked) | Use instead |
|---|---|
| pearson.com/languages/corporate/assessments/versant.html | Versant by Pearson: test takers, or Versant for HR professionals |
| shl.com/solutions/products/assessments/language-assessments/svar/ | SHL: SVAR spoken language assessment |
| berlitz.com/business/language-testing | Berlitz (US): language testing |
Red flags
- Someone asks you to pay for an employer's test. SHL and Harver publish no candidate price, and Berlitz Philippines publishes none for employer tests; the employer pays. The only official Versant purchase for candidates on the pages we read is the practice test on Pearson's store.
- Someone offers "the real Versant answers". Pearson's store says its practice test uses fixed questions; an employer's test is a different form. Memorised answers to someone else's test do not transfer, and selling them is not legitimate.
- Someone asks for your TIN. Pearson says a TIN cannot be used again once you attempt it. If a stranger starts your test, your attempt is gone.
- A link that is not on the owner's domain. Pearson tests live on pearson.com and its store, SVAR on shl.com, Harver on harver.com (or the link inside your Harver invitation), Berlitz on berlitzph.com or berlitz.com.
For every candidate-facing price in one table, see fees, booking and results.
How we check these links
Each row was opened on 21 October 2026. "Verified" means the page or PDF answered and its content matched what we quote on this page and across this guide. Where our usual fetcher returned a cut-off page (berlitz.com), we re-read the page in a normal browser before marking it verified. "Unverified" means the site answered but we could not read the specific content we wanted, so the row says what we could and could not confirm. We re-check the whole list every week with our exam calendar; when a page moves or a figure changes, the row, the date and the pages that quote it change together, and the hub's change log records it.
Then get back to practice: the 7-day plan turns these facts into thirty minutes a day, and Read Aloud and role-play practice are where the speaking happens.
