15 August Speech in Kannada and English 2026 (Line by Line Bhashana)

Here is a ready 15 August speech in Kannada with the English meaning of every line — a 1-minute version, a 3-minute version and a 10-line version, plus Roman transliteration if you find Kannada easier to read in English letters.

It is written to be spoken rather than read: short sentences, everyday words, and nothing that will trip up a Class 5 student on stage. Take the length that fits your slot and change the last paragraph to name your own school.

Before you start: the numbers to get right

  • Date: 15 August 2026, a Saturday
  • Which Independence Day: the 80th
  • Years of freedom completed: 79 (೭೯ ವರ್ಷಗಳು)
  • What happens to the flag: it is hoisted — tied low and pulled up — not unfurled

1-minute speech in Kannada (೧ ನಿಮಿಷದ ಭಾಷಣ)

About 120 words — the length most student speakers are actually given.

What it means in English

Honourable Principal, respected teachers and my dear friends,

Today is 15 August — our Independence Day. Warm wishes to all of you on this day.

Today we are celebrating India's 80th Independence Day. Our country won freedom in 1947, and today we complete 79 years of freedom.

This freedom did not come to us easily. Mahatma Gandhi, Bhagat Singh, Rani Lakshmibai of Jhansi and Rani Chennamma of Kittur — countless brave people like them offered their very lives for the country.

We cannot repay that debt, but we can turn their dream into reality. Studying with attention, living honestly, and respecting our country — that is the truest tribute we can offer them.

Jai Hind! Victory to Mother India!

3-minute speech in Kannada (೩ ನಿಮಿಷಗಳ ಭಾಷಣ)

What the 3-minute speech means in English

Honourable Principal, respected teachers, my classmates and all the distinguished guests present here,

Today is 15 August. Warm wishes on India's 80th Independence Day!

This morning we hoisted the tricolour. The pride that rises in your heart watching it fly cannot be put into words. But remembering what that flag cost is just as important.

On 15 August 1947 our country became free. Today we complete 79 years of freedom. But this date did not simply arrive. Behind it lies nearly two hundred years of struggle.

Mahatma Gandhi united an entire country on the path of non-violence. Bhagat Singh went to the gallows smiling at just twenty-three. Our own Rani Chennamma of Kittur was among the first queens to rise against the British. Sangolli Rayanna fought to his last breath.

Friends, winning freedom was hard; keeping it and making it meaningful is our work. And that work is not done through great achievements — it is done through small daily ones.

Coming to school on time. Studying with attention. Not telling lies. Keeping our surroundings clean. Respecting another person's language and religion. These may seem small, but a nation is built out of exactly these.

We can never repay our martyrs. But we can carry their dream forward — an India where every child can study, everyone can find work, and no one has to live in fear.

Let us make a resolution today. Let us think about what we can give our country. Because this country is ours, and the responsibility of building it is ours too.

With that I end my words. Thank you!

Jai Hind! Jai Karnataka! Victory to Mother India!

How to deliver it so it does not sound read

The speech above is the easy part. What decides how it lands is the ninety seconds of delivery, and almost all of that comes down to four habits:

  • Pause at every full stop, and count one in your head. Nervous speakers run sentences together. A held pause is the single biggest difference between a child reciting and a child speaking.
  • Look up on the last three words of each paragraph. You do not need to memorise the whole speech — just know the ending of each block well enough to lift your eyes for it.
  • Say the greeting slower than feels natural. The first line sets your pace for the whole speech. If you rush it, you will rush everything.
  • End loud. "Jai Hind" should be the loudest thing you say. Most speeches fade out at exactly the moment they should land.

Rehearse it out loud at least three times — not in your head. Reading silently trains your eyes, not your mouth, and on stage it is your mouth that has to do the work. If you can, record yourself once on a phone and listen back. Almost everyone is surprised by how fast they are going.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is 15 August 2026 the 79th or the 80th Independence Day?

The 80th. It marks 79 completed years, because 15 August 1947 was itself the 1st Independence Day. Both "೮೦ನೇ ಸ್ವಾತಂತ್ರ್ಯ ದಿನ" and "೭೯ ವರ್ಷಗಳ ಸ್ವಾತಂತ್ರ್ಯ" are correct.

Which Karnataka freedom fighters can I mention?

Kittur Rani Chennamma, who rose against the British in 1824, and Sangolli Rayanna, who fought on after her, are the two most commonly named in Karnataka school speeches. Both are in the 3-minute version above. Naming a local figure is the fastest way to make a speech feel like it belongs to your school rather than to the internet.

How many words is a 1-minute Kannada speech?

About 110 to 130 words at a comfortable pace. Kannada compounds run long on the page but are spoken quickly, so judge by a stopwatch rather than by how much space the text takes.

What should I say at the very end?

"ಜೈ ಹಿಂದ್!" is the standard close, often followed by "ಭಾರತ್ ಮಾತಾ ಕೀ ಜೈ!". Many Karnataka schools add "ಜೈ ಕರ್ನಾಟಕ!" between them. Use whichever your school usually says, and say it loudly.
