10 Lines on Children's Day in English for Students
Three sets of ten lines on Children's Day are below, for different classes, plus a set of 10 lines on Chacha Nehru. Start with the set that matches the age of the speaker, not the one that sounds most impressive. A Class 2 child saying short sentences clearly will always do better than one stumbling through long words.

The hard words, explained
If a younger child is saying these, check they know what the words mean. A word said confidently but not understood is obvious from the audience.
- Chacha: Hindi for uncle (a father's younger brother). Children used it as an affectionate name for Nehru.
- Bal Diwas: Hindi for Children's Day. Bal means child and diwas means day.
- Prime Minister: the head of the government of India.
- Birth anniversary: the birthday of someone who is no longer alive.
- Purna Swaraj: complete self-rule, or full independence. Say it POOR-na swa-RAAJ.
- Independence: being free to rule yourself.
How to rehearse ten lines
Ten lines feel easy, which is exactly why they go wrong. The child races through them in twenty seconds and sits down before anyone has heard a word.
- Practise out loud, not in your head. Three times is the minimum.
- Put a finger down for each line. Ten fingers, ten lines. It gives a nervous speaker something to hold on to and stops lines being skipped.
- Breathe at every full stop. Not a dramatic pause, just one breath. It slows the whole thing to the right speed.
- Say the last line more slowly than the rest. That is the one the audience remembers.
- Practise the greeting separately. "Good morning, everyone" is where most young speakers freeze, because it is the first thing out of the mouth.
When a child can say ten lines comfortably, the 1-minute Children's Day speech is the natural next step: about 130 words in short paragraphs, with a greeting and a clear ending already written in. For a Hindi-medium class, the बाल दिवस पर भाषण page has 10 lines in Hindi with their English meaning.
Frequently Asked Questions
How long does it take to say 10 lines?
Between forty seconds and a minute and a half, depending on the set and the age of the speaker. If it takes twenty seconds, it is being rushed.
Which set should a Class 1 student use?
The first one. Short sentences said clearly beat long ones delivered nervously, and teachers grade for clarity at that age, not vocabulary.
Can these lines be used for an essay too?
Yes. Ten lines is close to a 100-word paragraph. For a longer written answer, the Children's Day essay has 250 and 500-word versions.
Can my child say these lines in Hindi?
Yes. The Bal Diwas page has 10 lines in Hindi, with a 1-minute bhashan in Roman letters for children who read English letters more easily.
What is a good line to end on?
The last line of the first set: Happy Children's Day to all my friends! It is short and cheerful, and it gives a clear signal that the speaker has finished, which younger children often find hard to show.
