Placement English for students from Hindi-medium schools
In TalkDrill’s guided practice a student can answer in Hindi or Hinglish first; the coach then asks again in English and scores only the English answer. A student who freezes in English can get the idea out first and then practise saying it in English, every day, in private practice that no one at the college can replay.
How Hindi-first answering works
1
Answer in Hindi
The student says what they mean in Hindi or Hinglish.
2
Asked again in English
The coach asks the same question again in English.
3
Only English is scored
The Hindi answer is never marked; the English one is.
4
A drill and a retry
One strength, one change quoting their words, a two-minute drill and a retry.
Why it helps
A common pattern: a student who studied in a Hindi-medium school knows the answer to an interview question and loses it the moment it has to come out in English. Practising only in English turns every session into that moment again.
Answering in Hindi first separates the two problems: the student shows they have the idea, then works on saying it in English, and the score measures only the English. Because private practice cannot be read or replayed by anyone at the college, a hesitant first attempt costs nothing.
Starting from the right level
A placement test that starts at A1
The placement test reports a CEFR level from A1 to C2, so a beginner gets a plan for a beginner, not a placement-week script.
Two English courses and 20 games
English Grammar Basics and Everyday Spoken English: about 100 short chapters that end with the student saying it out loud, with progress and stars per learner. Plus 20 short vocabulary, grammar and listening games for the days nobody has twenty minutes.
A weekly plan on every student’s Home
Three short missions a week, each with the reason it was picked, plus controls for an exam week or a quieter task. A short checkpoint every one to two weeks updates their readiness across seven skills.
Roleplay, writing and pronunciation, all scored
AI roleplay at a difficulty you set, from a viva to a salary conversation. Emails and essays scored on task response, organisation, grammar, vocabulary, mechanics and tone. And every spoken session scored on pronunciation and fluency.
